Ennis and the Madison Valley
Ennis is located in the heart of the Madison Valley, and was founded during the 1863 Alder Gulch gold rush. Today, Ennis is a friendy little western town and remains the hub of this farm, ranch and fishing community.
The valley is cut by the Madison River, world famous for it's trout fishing. The river originates in Yellowstone National Park and slices through the Madison Valley on it's way to the headwaters of the Missouri River in Three Forks, MT. The valley is surrounded by several mountain ranges: the Centennial, Tobacco Root, Gravelly, Gallatin, and the dramatic Madison Range, home to Moonlight Basin and Big Sky ski resorts. Ennis Lake sits on the river at the north end of the valley and provides for some great summer recreational activities. The Beartrap Canyon wilderness area begins below the dam and seperates the upper and lower sections of the Madison. Hundreds of public roads and trails surround the valley and provide access to thousands of acres of Forest Service lands.
Other nearby attractions include: the Lewis and Clark Caverns, Virginia City, West Yellowstone, Quake Lake, Norris Hot Springs, Cliff & Wade Lakes, Yellowstone National Park, numerous shops, galleries and guest ranches, as well as Butte and Bozeman.
